Topper Topaz TAZ Sailboat NZ Topper Sailboats: TAZ sailing dinghy
Topper Topaz TAZ youth sailing
The Topper Topaz TAZ provides the perfect platform for young sailors.

Outstanding stability and easily controlled rig options allow youngsters to progress at their own individual pace. The TAZ has huge beach credibility and her simplicity breeds instant confidence.

A choice of two simple sail options mean that the TAZ can be rigged to suit varying levels of competence and confidence or to cope with varied sailing conditions.
Spacious Hull.

The Topaz TAZ is roomy enough for two - an instructor and child or two young sailors out together (total crew weight 160kg) - making the TAZ the ideal sailboat for beginners and sailing schools.

Simple and Fun.
Young children can feel safe and confident in the superb TAZ.  Extra built-in buoyancy and a higher freeboard than on other boats ensures the boat won't take on water over the transom or nosedive.

Instant Beach Credibility.
The TAZ's ultra-modern good looks will instantly ignite interest.  Once on the water, the superbly responsive TAZ will delight and win over another convert to the sport of sailing.

Hassle-Free Maintenance.
The hi-tech rota-moulded polyethylene hull is unsinkable and far stronger and long-lasting than other sailboats available on the market in New Zealand.

The hull, which comes with a three year warranty is virtually indestructible, even against the harshest knocks and scrapes made by the novice. Tried and tested Topper Topaz fittings and fixtures ensure that failures are kept to a minimum.

Cartoppable and Quick to Rig.
At 40kg and fitted with carry-handles at the bow and stern, the TAZ is easily cartoppable. The simple mastgate eliminate the need to lift the mast in.  The rig can be stepped by even a small child.

Why not let the children decide on what they would like to sail in?

Let them really enjoy the thrill of sailing a proper yacht, that will motivate and keep them coming back for more, through the ease of learning, exhilaration and confidence at speed, along with the all important beach credibility to match.

"Smaller and lighter, nippier and more handy than a Pico or Topper, which makes it a more suitable size for introducing young children to sailing."“The TAZ's inner and outer surfaces provided excellent durability, while the layer of foam in between provides stiffness and flotation throughout the hull”. "The TAZ has a racy hull shape with a flat rocked backend starting to taper at the daggerboard towards a fine bow. So the TAZ also appears to cut upwind quickly, pointing high, tacking easily and accelerating with each gust. Sailing offwind on flat water, the TAZ stayed stable downwind and in gybes"“The TAZ is 2.95m in hull length and 41kg in hull weight. The TAZ has plenty of room for two children in its cockpit and unlike the Optimist has a high boom that should stay clear of small heads." "Since its sandwich construction hull is hollow, there is room for inspection hatches in the bow and the transom providing a small amount of watertight storage space for spare clothes, drinks or even sandwiches”.
YACHTS & YACHTING 2002“How would the TAZ beat to windward against a strong spring ebb tide in a gusty 25 knots of wind? This scenario confronts many coastal sailors and the TAZ performed extremely well”.
